On December 12, 2025, Bareos GmbH & Co. KG celebrates its 13th anniversary. Since 2012, our focus has remained the same: providing reliable, open-source backup and recovery solutions to organizations of all sizes – from research institutes and large enterprises to public sector environments and service providers.
Over the years, thousands of users have trusted Bareos to protect their data. Today, our software runs in complex HPC clusters, universities, enterprises and government infrastructures across the world. We are grateful for the trust, feedback and collaboration that made this possible.

Bareos 25: Our Main Release of the Year
One of the biggest milestones in 2025 was the release of Bareos 25. It brings important improvements across many areas, including:
- Hyper-V Plugin
- Proxmox Plugin
- Windows bare-metal disaster recovery as Barri Plugin
- Updated Libcloud Plugin
- Qumulo Plugin (by Yuzuy)
- New PCRE2 library
- Automatic disk autochangers

Throughout the year, we published several new guides and topic-focused articles to help users build secure and compliant backup setups:
We also continued building our YouTube presence. New videos on Bareos 25 and beyond, manuals and backup best practices will be added regularly.
Partnerships and Community Work
This year, Bareos became an official Proxmox partner, strengthening our integration and helping users run Bareos in virtualised environments.
We also continued working with partners and service providers in different regions. In the United States, users can contact SEDA Systems. In Brazil and South America, Heitor Faria supports Bareos users and projects. In Germany, Lucas Knapp from EDNT provides consulting, implementation and ongoing support for organisations in production.
We keep organizing Expert Circle sessions and events to answer questions and get direct feedback from users.
