The Helmut Schmidt University, located in Hamburg, Germany, is a German military educational establishment that was founded in 1973 at the initiative of the then-Federal Minister of Defense, Helmut Schmidt. Originally known as the “Military university of Hamburg”, it is one of two universities in Germany that the military has established to train its junior officers. Since 2002, a small number of civilian students have been admitted to the university.
The university uses Bareos to secure the heterogeneous systems of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Institute of Computer Science. In addition, Bareos runs in the faculty’s computer lab and backs up the Windows profiles of the users as well as the workstation PCs (Linux and Windows 10).

In our opinion, Bareos is the best solution when you have to back up and restore heterogeneous environments. The configuration can be a bit tricky, but once the software is running it works really well!
