The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is the largest public research institution in Italy, the only one under the Research Ministry performing multidisciplinary activities. Founded in 1923, CNR’s mission is to perform research in its own institutes, to promote innovation and competitiveness of the national industrial system, and to promote the internationalization of the national research system. More than 8,000 employees work at CNR. About half of them are engaged in postgraduate studies and research training.

Dr. Giorgio Bartoccioni and Dr. Roberto Muzi describe the Bareos installation at CNR in a 48 page paper (in Italian language). They give a comprehensive introduction to backup concepts and Bareos basics, describe the installation and configuration, including connecting the IBM tape library TS3500 with a capacity of 1,750  Petabytes.
