Bareos Administration, Part I and II – two Workshops coming up

Our training partner Dr. Stephan Rein offers two online workshops on Bareos administration (respectively “Bareos Part I” and “Bareos Part II”) in May (suitable for European and Asian time zones, and June (suitable for European and American east cost timezones) 2021. The first course will take place on May 7, 11, 12, and 16, for a full day. The second workshop is designed as a half-day course instead: Bareos Part I (May 31-June 4, 2021, Monday through Friday) and Bareos Part II (June 8-10, 2021, Tuesday through Thursday).

Bareos Part I will take place on four full days and starts at 7 a.m. (CEST, UTC +1). We have chosen such an early time so that interested users from other time zones, for example the Near and Middle East, can also participate. On the other hand, the second course is a half-day course, which should leave enough time for daily work. It starts at 2 pm (CEST, UTC +1).

Bareos Administration I

On the whole, the contents of the first course are aimed more at beginners:

  • Introduction to Bareos
  • Installation (deb, rpm) and update
  • Basic Configuration
  • Backup and Restore
  • Backup Strategies
  • Volume Management I: (Backup2Disk)
  • Volume LifeCycle Management
  • Bareos Tools/Utilities
  • Disaster Recovery (NEW: Disaster Recovery for the Bareos server and also Disaster Recovery with Bareos and ReaR)

Bareos Administration II

By the way, the second workshop is more in-depth:

  • Volume Management II: (Backup2Disk2Tape)
    • Backup on Tape
    • Autoloader/Tape Library
    • Migration and Replication (Copy Jobs)
  • Scale/parallelize Bareos (Concurrent Jobs)

Overall, there will be plenty of exercises for the participants to perform on their own computers (prerequisite: Windows, macOS or Linux). All exercises take place in specially provided virtual Linux servers running in VirtualBox. The participants work with PuTTY/SuperPuTTY (Windows) or SSH (Linux, macOS). Prerequisites: Participants should be familiar with the Linux console and a text editor: Nano, Joe, Emacs, Vi(m), for instance.

A conference server from backups.help is available for the communication during the class. Participants can access it via a web browser. Therefore, a microphone is necessary, a camera optional.

Bareos Administration Part I (5 afternoons) costs 1189 Euro (incl. 19% VAT), Part II (3 afternoons) 713 Euro (incl. VAT). Both workshops combined cost 1784 Euro (incl. VAT). This means that the full-day course also costs 1784 Euro. There is also a 10% discount for customers with a valid Bareos Subscription. Please register via the backup & recovery help website.
